All about the program / introduction of the program
INTRODUCTION
The Diploma in Islamic Media Studies was first offered at UnIPSAS (formerly known as KUIPSAS-KIPSAS) in 2010. This diploma program is a new academic offering that has received encouraging responses up to the present day. The rapid development of media technology, including broadcasting, radio, and the internet along with the growth of the film, drama, advertising, and documentary industries, has made this field increasingly attractive to SPM graduates.
The establishment of the Diploma in Islamic Media Studies at UnIPSAS, as the first program of its kind in Malaysia, aims to produce graduates who not only possess technical skills and knowledge, but also have an Islamic worldview (fikrah Islamiah). These graduates are expected to help transform the media industry towards greater Shariah compliance and become effective agents of da’wah in society.
PROGRAM ADVANTAGES
• This diploma has been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and accredited by MQA (Malaysian Qualifications Agency).
• The curriculum was developed by experts in both academia and the media industry.
• This is the first program of its kind to be introduced in Malaysia.
• Graduates of this diploma not only possess knowledge in the field of media and the ability to operate various media equipment, but also uphold Islamic values and commendable character.
• The program is capable of producing qualified graduates to serve at Islamic-oriented TV or radio stations such as Astro Oasis, TV Alhijrah, TV9, IKIM.fm, and similar platforms.
• Lecturers involved in the teaching and learning process are highly qualified and have extensive industry experience.
• Students will have the opportunity to learn through both theoretical and practical approaches.
PROGRAM FACTS
TV Alhijrah, Astro Oasis, and IKIM.fm are among the stations that provide Islamic-themed content to television viewers and radio listeners in Malaysia as alternatives to other stations that are overly commercial and entertainment-focused. The field of Islamic broadcasting and radio requires skilled personnel who are proficient in operating media equipment and possess strong theoretical knowledge to take on roles such as host, program producer, director, DJ, scriptwriter, translator, drama and film creator, editor, cameraman, videographer, and audiovisual system operator.
The country is currently facing a shortage of human resources who are skilled in both technical media operations and Islamic content knowledge. Media professionals with technical expertise often lack the ability to produce meaningful Islamic content, while graduates of Islamic studies, despite their religious knowledge, typically lack technical and equipment-handling skills.
Therefore, the offering of the Diploma in Islamic Media Studies at UnIPSAS is aligned with the growing needs of the media industry and is expected to help fill this gap.
